Natural Moisturizers for Dry Skin

Does your skin feel like a desert? Not to worry! Soft, supple skin is not a mirage. If you're stuck in a dry spell and searching for relief, try a few of these natural moisturizing techniques to hydrate and revitalize your skin.

Hydrating Facial Mask
In a small bowl, mix one avocado, one raw egg, and one teaspoon of coconut oil to form a creamy paste. Apply the paste to your face and let it work its magic for 25 - 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Raw eggs and avocados contain natural moisturizing proteins, making them a super combo for fresh, luxurious skin. Adding coconut oil provides a boost of antioxidants.

Milk Bath
Fill your bathtub with warm water and add up to five cups of rich, whole milk or buttermilk. Light a few candles, turn on some tunes, and soak yourself for twenty to thirty minutes. Milk contains proteins that can help smooth and rejuvenate dry skin.

Oatmeal and Yogurt Exfoliant
Mix one cup uncooked oatmeal and a few spoonfuls of plain yogurt to create an exfoliating paste. Use as a gentle body scrub to remove dry, flaky skin and dead skin cells. The oatmeal will do the scrubbing while the yogurt does the moisturizing.

Maintain a Healthy Diet
Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat foods high in nutrients. Think fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and tobacco - all skin dehydrators, and avoid processed and packaged foods as much as possible.

Natural Tips for Shiny Hair

Do you long for shiny tresses, but lack the funds for expensive products and treatments? Don't despair - you don't have to be a supermodel to have gleaming locks. Before you mourn your lackluster strands, head to the kitchen and try these simple solutions to lock in shine the natural way.

Sun, wind, saltwater, pollution, and chemicals are just some of the shine-depleting elements your hair may be subjected to on a daily basis. They can strip your hair of its natural oils and create build-up leaving it dull and lifeless. Fortunately, Mother Nature has a few remedies to share.

The Alluring Avocado
Mash an avocado (one avocado for short hair, two for long) in a bowl until it forms a thick paste. Spread the paste on your hair from root to tip and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Avocados are high in fatty acids and nutrients. Feed your hair!

Amazing Apple Cider Vinegar
Mix half a cup of apple cider vinegar with one quart of water and use as a hair rinse after your regular shampoo. Rich in alpha-hydroxy acids, apple cider vinegar helps break down residue build-up leaving your hair soft and full of shine. Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and it will be shining in no time.

Eggs Over Olive Oil
Beat together two eggs for short hair, three for long, and add in three tablespoons of olive oil. Coat your hair from root to tip and leave on for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Eggs contain eleven essential nutrients and are packed with protein. Combine them with olive oil for conditioning and nourishment and you have one powerful duo.

Coconut Craze
Warm three tablespoons of coconut oil and gently comb into your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in a hot towel and let the oil sit for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse. Loaded with antioxidants, coconut oil works to smooth dry and damaged cuticles and lock in shine.

Life doesn't have to be dull and neither does your hair! It's time to shine! Open your cabinet and start mixing, then sit back and bask in your natural glow.

Natural Ways to Lighten Your Skin

Dark spots, and freckles, and skin-damage - oh my! Looking to lighten your complexion? Every shade of skin is beautiful, but as we grow older our skin tone can change. Freckles may appear, dark spots can arise, and skin may not be as light as it once was. So, if you're still not ready to embrace your dark side, read on for a few natural whitening tips and tricks.

Use Sunblock
One of the easiest ways to stay fair is to use sunblock on a daily basis. Find a moisturizer that includes an SPF of 15 or higher and use it every morning after washing your face. Sunblock not only prevents your skin from getting darker, but also blocks harmful UV rays that can cause cancer and premature aging. Remember your hands when applying sunblock, as they are a prime area for age spots.

Exfoliate
Exfoliating once a week will remove dead skin cells to lighten and brighten your skin. Mix two tablespoons oatmeal and two tablespoons brown sugar with a quarter cup of milk, and stir until a paste forms. Gently scrub your face, rinse, and moisturize.

Make a Mask
A homemade mask is a great way to lighten your skin and a good excuse to kick back on the couch. Try using one once a week. Use one tablespoon of each of the following: sandalwood paste, lemon juice, tomato juice, and cucumber juice. Mix them all together to form a paste. Spread the mixture on your face and wait until it dries. Rinse and moisturize for a natural glow.

Licorice Extract
Licorice extract contains glabridin, a component that acts as a natural skin whitener. Apply a thin layer of the extract morning and evening, after you wash your face and before you moisturize. Licorice extract can be found at any health food store or ordered online. Be sure to store the bottle in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness. Note: test a small amount on the back of your arm before using on your face to be sure you do not have an allergic reaction.

Remember to love your skin no matter what color it is. It's a part of who you are and that's what makes you beautiful and unique.

Best Mascara for Your Eyelashes

Sometimes simplicity makes all the difference. Getting all dolled up doesnt have to become a hassle every time you have somewhere to go. A nice dress or outfit can be complemented with a few jewelry items, a fashionable hairstyle Haute Hair (or hair brushed out straight) and a light smattering of makeup - see Carmen diva look.

Whether you are going for all-out glamor or girl-next-door gorgeous, a coat or two of mascara will work wonders for bringing out your beautiful eyes and long lashes Lashes Unlimited. If you dont regularly wear makeup, you may want to consider these questions before selecting mascara from among countless brands and styles.

What type of eyelashes do I have? Are they long, curly, thick, thin, short, just right?

Once you answer this question, you can learn what positives your lashes have going for them and what element could be easily enhanced with the right kind of mascara. Shorter lashes could lash out with a length enhancing type of mascara. Thinner lashes will become fuller with a thickening formula and longer lashes will really benefit from curling mascara.

What will look best with my complexion? What will complement my outfit and wardrobe in general?

Mascaras are available in a wide range of colors and styles, from blackest black and dark brown to lighter shades of both, or even fun colors like blues and greens. Most times black and brown hues are most appropriate and work well with any skin tone, eye color and choice of wardrobe.

Do I plan to go swimming? Is there a chance I might cry, or laugh so hard that I cry? Am I going to take a quick shower at some point and hope to avoid re-doing my makeup entirely?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, waterproof mascara is the way to go! Great for preventing soppy scenes at sad movies or emotional times weddings, graduations and the like, waterproof mascara can save the day, or at least your face. Available most often in shades of black and brown, this type of mascara can be difficult to remove unless you have a makeup remover that is capable of gently washing away water resistant makeup.

Do you cringe at the thought of that archaic metal eyelash curler getting within a foot of your face?

If so, you will want to keep an eye out for mascara that has a curling element to it. Sometimes these products come with multiple characteristics, like thickening or lengthening aspects as well. First determine your needs and then seek out mascara that will satisfy them.

Do you feel that your eyelashes are very blonde - Blondes Have More Fun, or not so noticeable? Do you often feel like you have to glob a lot makeup onto them just to make them stand out?

If this problem seems to haunt you, try a lash thickening mascara, or possibly one that lengthens and thickens. A thicker formula will be better for your lashes than a product that cakes on layer after layer. Even if your eyelashes are still a bit subtle, you can always further accent your eyes with eyeliner and darker eye shadows. If you still seem to have trouble making your eyes more defined, consider checking into fake eyelashes - be a bombshell for special occasions.

Flutter Your Eyelashes

The eyelashes are not just strands of hair that rim our eyelids. They are gifts that Mother Nature gave us to protect and shield our eyes from dust and other foreign bodies. And because we communicate a lot with our eyes, our eyelashes help us put color and meaning to our words with the way we flutter and bat our eyelashes.

It would be infinitely nicer and infinitely more effective, though, if the lashes that we bat and flutter look long, thick and immaculate. We do not have to be born with long and thick eyelashes to be able to have seductive-looking eyes, though. After all, what is makeup for? All it takes is the touch of the magical mascara wand.

Mascara does magic for our lashes as long as it is correctly applied, in such a way that there are no globs of the stuff clinging to our lashes and that each strand is separated from the other. Nothing ruins the effect of mascara than globs and lash strands clumped together.

To avoid dried globs and clumping strands, apply the mascara to the base of the lashes with the mascara wand and then give the wand a wiggle. Afterwards, carefully brush the mascara to the ends of the lashes with the use of a lash comb. Or if you do not want to use a lash comb, just wipe the excess mascara from your wand with a piece of tissue before touching it to your lashes.

Another thing that makes mascara look ugly is if it smudges. Sometimes, the smudge happens because the eye cream or the concealer used is oil-based and still wet. You can prevent the smudging by applying powder first onto your lower eyelids before putting on the mascara. Also, try not to blink while putting the mascara on, or else it will definitely stick to your eyelids rather than to your lashes.

Sometimes, a second coat of mascara makes the lashes look thicker. But if you are thinking of applying a second coat, better do it before the first coat dries, or else you will only end up clumping the lashes. Also, do use your lash curlers before putting on your mascara, not after. Lash curlers work more effectively if preheated prior to the curling. Be careful not to heat your curlers too much, though, or else you will singe your eyes.

When applying mascara, we tend to miss the lashes at the corners of our eyes. To make sure that you have your lashes fully covered, it is best that you use a mascara wand that is short and thin. Short and wands let you reach those corner lashes; it also gives you extra control in handling it.

The best mascara results come from using clean wands, so keep your wands clean at all times. Put some makeup remover on your mascara wand to wash off the dried mascara, and then clean it with soap and water. Let the wand dry first before replacing it with your other makeup tools. A clean and dry wand not only maximizes the application and appearance of mascara on the eyes, but also prevents the eyes from getting irritated.

Teeth Beauty Tips

Catherine Zeta Jones brushes her teeth with mashed strawberries every day. They contain Malic Acid, which acts as a mild astringent when mixed with baking soda.

If you have some Hydrogen Peroxide around the house, add 3 drops of it to some baking soda and brush with it like you would with toothpaste. This is similar to some of the whitening formulas you can buy in the pharmacy.

For a more natural solution, try making a paste of one of the following recipes:
1. Lemon juice and salt.
2. Apple cider vinegar and baking soda.
3. Orange peel and bay leaves.

Keep in mind that overusing any home remedy, especially salt and lemon juice, can strip away your tooth enamel, so be sure to only use it as a short term solution.

Lighten Your Skin the Natural Way

The older we get, the more damage our skin takes. Dark spots, freckles and tons and tons of skin-damage are all things we’ll have to deal with at one point or another. If you haven’t already seen the dire effects, you will soon. Read on to get some natural skin whitening tips that might be useful once those dark spots and freckles appear.
Use Sunblock
Using sunblock is the most preventive way against skin damage. Make sure you use at least an SPF 15 and apply it every morning after you wash your face, even if it’s winter - the sun’s still out! Sunblock not only prevents skin from darkening, but also blocks harmful UV rays that cause melanoma and severe skin damage. Also, don’t forget to apply sunblock to your hands as they are a prime area for age spots.

Exfoliate
Exfoliating is extremely important for your skin as it gets rid of dead skin cells that are piling up on you. Eliminating these dead skin cells will leave you with a brighter, clearer complexion and will also prevent breakouts. Mix two tablespoons of oatmeal and two tablespoons of brown sugar with a quarter cup of milk, stirring until a paste forms. Massage it onto your face, rinse, and moisturize.

Put on a Mask
Putting a mask on once a week will ensure that your skin gets cleansed properly, which will help prevent the appearance of dark spots. Make your own mask or just go to the drug store and pick one out that best suits your needs. If your skin is super dry for example, get a hydrating mask that will leave your skin super moisturized and silky.

3 Steps to Looking Gorgeous

Most of us don’t have time in the morning to do full-on makeup, hair and everything else. All of these things take time and no one wants to wake up an hour early to do their makeup. So here is a super-quick way to getting ready from makeup to hair in just a few minutes.

Step 1: Face Fix

Instead of spending so much time putting on foundation and blending just use a concealer to even out your skin tone and reduce redness. Dot it all over the problem areas tapping it lightly so it melts onto your skin. Finish off with a mineral powder all over your face so your concealer stays on longer and your face looks fresh and matte.

Step 2: Enhance Your Eyebrows

You may not think a lot about grooming your brows, but it makes a huge difference. To get a nice arch, hold a pencil diagonally over your brows positioning the tip of the eraser at the base of the brows. Tweeze any hairs that fall above and below the pencil. Flip it once you reach midway, and repeat on the other side.

Step 3: Get a Beautiful Rosy Glow

There is nothing more beautiful than a rosy, youthful glow to your face so take a pink lipstick and warm it up with your blowdrier for 5 seconds. Swipe it over your lips and proceed by adding a little bit to the apples of your cheeks. Use the cream lipstick as an eyeshadow and blend it lightly with your fingertips. Finish off with mascara.

Top 7 Household Beauty Products

You don’t have to shell out a ton of dough for effective beauty products, especially when they can be found in your own home. Things that we keep in our kitchen cupboards, in the fridge or in the medicine cabinet can benefit our day-to-day beauty routines. Keep reading to find the top 7 household beauty products you can use now!

1. The Almighty Vaseline
Vaseline is as plain and simple as it gets. Not only has it been around for ages, but it’s been a major beauty product staple since I can remember. Use Vaseline for softening your skin, instead of a lip balm, to soften cuticles, remove makeup and use it as a makeup primer to ensure a long lasting wear.
2. Magical Witch Hazel
Again, Witch Hazel is another famous beauty staple that you must have! Although it is mainly used for scrapes and cuts, Witch Hazel can also be used as foot softener when added to a warm bowl of water, as well as a toner for oily prone skin.

3. Baby Powder
This stuff isn’t just for babies anymore. Not only does baby powder smell incredibly fresh, but it also leaves your skin super soft and touchable. Baby powder also works great as a dry shampoo. Just sprinkle a little bit into your palms and rub against your scalp. The powder helps to absorb oil, making your hair look soft and shiny for those days when you don’t have time to wash your hair.4. Amazing Yogurt
You should know by now that yougurt has amazing properties which not only help your immune system but also prevents osteoporosis and keeps the digestive track running smoothly. But yougurt can also do wonders for your skin. You can use it on sunburns, which will help soothe the burn or use it as a face mask. Just slather it onto your face and leave it on for 20 minutes.5. Dryer Sheets
Dryer sheets aren’t also good for your clothes, they serve other purposes as well. Rub a dryer sheet onto staticky clothes or even onto your hair to tame flyaways. Dryer sheets are also great for removing pet hair off your clothing.
6. Baby Wipes
Baby wipes are one of those multi-tasking things that you need to have everywhere including at home, in the car and at the office. They’re great for removing makeup, deodorant streaks and pretty much anything else you need erased.

7. The Power of Mayo

Mayonnaise isn’t just good in food, it’s also good for your hair! Before shampooing, massage throughout wet hair and put on a shower cap for 15 minutes (or a bit longer if your hair is on the dry side). When time’s up, take off the cap, rinse hair thoroughly and shampoo as usual. Your hair should look and feel super hydrated, soft and shiny.

Mayo is also great as a facial moisturizer when used at room temperature. You can also use mayo as a mask. Just apply to the face, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse off. The oils moisturize and the salt removes impurities.

Lastly, mayo is also a great skin softener. Rub it on rough spots such as knees, elbows and feet and leave on for 10 minutes. This will help remove dead skin. While you’re doing that, the mayo also helps strengthen the nails so you get 2-in-1!

Maximize Your Lashes

These days, there are tons of mascaras that promise you super long lashes, separation and thickness. Unfortunately, these products don’t work for most of the time. That’s why you need to adopt a good technique to get the most out of your lashes and maximize them to the fullest. So here is how to get the most out of your lashes:

Step 1: Use an eyelash curler to curl the base of your lashes first. Hold for 15 seconds. If you find that your lashes don’t curl as easily, heat your eyelashes curler with a blowdrier for a few seconds and try again.

Step 2: After you’ve curled the base, use your lash curler at the halfway point of your lashes. Hold for another 15 seconds.

Step 3: The final step involves curling your lashes at the tips to get the maximum lash curl. Hold for 15 seconds yet again and release.

Swipe on a lenghening mascara such as Lise Watier 24hrs Glam Mascara or Maybelline Stiletto

Save your hair from the heat

Instead of giving your hair the double heat shock of blow dryer AND flat iron each morning, wash your hair at night and let it air dry. When you use your flat iron in the morning, you'll get the same look with half the heat!
